Oil on canvas
The single visible eye of the woman in the foreground — emblem of the “Queen of Spades,” one of the French playing cards — along with the single eye of the profile dominating the center of the painting and the ship emerging between the two figures, gazes, questions, or turns ideally toward an “elsewhere.”
The painting also reveals a glimpse of the most eloquent example of Florentine Gothic architecture from the 14th century — Giotto’s famous Bell Tower — which is overshadowed by these mysterious apparitions. I used oil paint to define this fusion of reality and dream, where figurative elements meet a metaphysical and symbolic world.
The work, imbued with surrealism, intertwines faces and architecture in a dance of shapes and colors. Emotions flow freely, inviting the viewer to deep reflection on existence beyond the visible. Bringing this canvas into your home adds a touch of mystery and contemplative energy that stimulates both mind and soul.
